Romania: Hydropower consumption up by 7.4 pct to 4.1 million toe in 2016

 

Romania’s hydropower consumption rose 7.4 percent last year to 4.1 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), and accounted for 0.4 percent of world consumption, according to data centralized by the British Petroleum.

Over the past ten years, the highest hydropower consumption was recorded in 2010, namely 4.5 million toe, and in 2006 and 2014, when it reached 4.2 toe.

Worldwide, the hydropower consumption amounted to 910.3 million toe. The countries that consumed the highest amount of hydropower last year were: China – 263.1 million toe, Canada – 7.8 million toe, and Brazil – 81.7 million toe.

In the European Union (EU), the hydropower consumption stood at 78.7 million toe and accounted for 8.6 percent of world consumption.
