Romania, BNR: Banknotes and coins with the new country emblem, to be issued as of January the 1st, 2018

Banknotes with the new emblem will have inscribed the date of January 1st, 2018. All the other graphic elements of banknotes and coins with the new emblem, their characteristics and safety elements of the banknotes will be the same as those of banknotes and coins in circulation.

The banknotes and coins with the new emblem will be launched in circulation gradually, according to the real needs of monetary circulation. They will circulate in parallel with the ones already in circulation.

The crown on the gold eagle will return on official documents, and president Klaus Iohannis will promulgate on Monday the draft law stating that public authorities will have to modify existing stamps and seals until December 31, 2018.

“The blue shield has a gold eagle with its crowned head to the right, with red beak and claws, with open wing, holding a gold, Orthodox cross in its beak, a sword in the right claw and a mace in the left claw,” the law says.

Until December 31, 2018, when we celebrate 100 years since the Great Union, public authorities must replace existing  seals and stamps with the new ones. Until then the two models can be used at the same time.
