Romania: Cernavoda Unit 2 shut down by Nuclearelectrica, following malfunction at light water supply system

Nuclearelectrica announces initiation by CNE Cernavoda of controlled shut down of Unit 2, following a punctual situation at one of the light water supply system, in the nuclear power plant’s classic side, according to a release by the plant, sent to Agerpres.

The situation could only be redressed with the reactor in the off state, according to the plant’s systems and procedures.

Nuclearelectrica estimates that the shut down for the remediation works could reach 72 hours.

The punctual situation and the activity’s put right is not a negative impact for the central’s staff, the public or the environment, and that they are carried out according to the approved procedures used at CNE Cernavoda, the energy producer leaders also say.

The Cernavoda nuclear power plant operates two reactors which together develop 1,400 MW installed capacity and cover rd 20 percent of the national power yield.
