Romania: PM sends Government control body to Cernavoda nuclear plant

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has requested the Government control body to conduct an investigation at the Cernavoda Nuclear Plant, following the breakdowns in the past few days.

Thursday morning, Reactor 2 has automatically disconnected from the national energy system, following the malfunction of an electric system, Nuclearelectrica has informed, quoted by

The company stresses the classic part of the plant is involved, not the nuclear one.

“The specialists are investigating the cause and will make all necessary decisions to repair it, according to the procedures for nuclear industry in such situations. There is no connection between the fall in power on March 25 and the automatic disconnection today, March 29,” the Nuclearelectrica officials said.

On Sunday, the company had announced the fall by 55% of the Reactor 2 power, in order to replace a spare part (ball bearing) of a condensation pump engine. Also on Sunday, Reactor 1 was stopped under control for about 48 hours, following the failure of one of the plant’s processing systems.
